
YMA Highlights October 2005 - February 2006
October
- Two Youth Mercy Associates left to live in Scotland, they are now correspondent YMA, together with Bridget who lives up in Northumberland.
- Made a visit to Metrocentre. On the way home, called into St Mary’s Cathedral to light a candle each, for late Fr Tom Cass, much loved by the children.
November
- Complied their advent calendar.
- Bag packing at Morrisons, raised £804.00.
- 1/2 term visit to the elderly at St Joseph’s Home.
- Made their own Christmas cards to send out to groups and sisters - prize for best one.
December
- Carol service/readings at St Joseph’s home for residents and Little Sisters of the poor.
- Carol service/readings at Alnwick Convent for Sisters and Mercy Associates. YMA shared their prayers later with the Sisters.
- Joined Fr Corbett, Chaplain at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, city centre, for carols around the wards. Visited children’s ITU and wards for the elderly.
- Christmas party in school.
January
- All enjoyed the panto, a treat for all their hard work, bag packing.
- Recommitment to Make Poverty History campaign.
- Chaplain at the high school wants to be involved with YMA; maybe during lunchtime.
- Children sent flowers for funerals of Sr Mercy and Sr Patrick. Children became very fond of both sisters whilst in St Joseph’s home and asked if they could send flowers.
February
- Some YMA helped with the Sunday morning Fair Trade stall in their parish, and also the adjoining parish another Sunday.
- YMA Jennifer won the ‘guess the face’ competition in Hexham and Newcastle diocesan newspaper. The face was Catherine McAuley; most of YMA entered. Jennifer won £10 for herself and £50 for her charity - the Special Care Baby Unit at RVI. We are going to present the cheque as a group.

Future Events
- March, Alnwick, for a talk by Sr Raphael on Catherine McAuley and Tour of the
Heritage Centre.
- March, YMA are to help Sr Sue Morrison at the Fair Trade fare in the City Centre market.
- Making Easter cards. Making bookmarks.
- Two YMA have been chosen by the high school to help with the sick on the diocesan
pilgrimage to Lourdes.
- March, visit to St Joseph’s home.
- Visit to BBC.
- Two bag packings booked.
